Hi Laurie,

I am wondering if you can offer any advice as to ways of relieving creaky bones. I've tried Gjlucosamine for many months without any relief and was wondering if you had any ideas for more "natural" relief methods.

Thanks for your ideas and I loved your website !!

Some ideas about creaking, crackling joints..first, think of your Dosha and the qualities of the season where you live. A more Vata person (my eyeball estimate of the person asking this question) will have more issues with Cold and Dry where she lives at this time of year. General guideline: do what balances out Cold and Dry, which is Warm and Moisten. Note that I am not just now going into the Western physiology of creaky poppy joints, just thinking of the qualities involved. Do the general things first and then you can investigate more specific additional diagnoses and treatments.
1. Put more fluid into your body, but not cold water. Tangy and spicy soups and teas will get things moving and cleared out.
a. Mixed vegetable juice- not with extra salt or sugar added (check labels or juice your own) half juice and half distilled water, add a pinch of garlic and ginger or cayenne, drink room temperature
- carrots, alfalfa sprouts, celery, tomato, beets, red cabbage, green leafies except spinach (too high in oxalates, which contribute to the formation of crunchy little crystals)
b. Mixed fruit juice – unfiltered (cloudy) apple juice, plums, a little pineapple, throw in the ginger..a little but not too much of the acidic citrus fruits in the mix is okay –
-same instructions as for the veggie juice, also cinnamon, nutmeg and a little honey or maple syrup are yummy. You can drink the juice mix hot also.
c. teas – ginger, citrus peel, cloves, basically everything you use to spice a pumpkin or apple pie, or hot gluhwein. (Actually a sip or two of hot gluhwein would be okay too but don’t wander happily around in the marketplace in your flannel jammies after drinking this stuff, as I remember seeing more than one dignified elderly person doing in Germany in the middle of Winter!)
2. Indian food! Think curries and sauces and anything with lots of turmeric in it.

3. Soup – chicken soup and throw in everything; crack the bones and throw them in, simmer until everything falls off the bone. Lots of onion and garlic, a few potatoes okay but whole grain rice is better, any green leafies except spinach, and as much bay, rosemary, thyme and sage as you like. Go get a whole yucca root and add some in too. If you are more vegetarily inclined leave out the chicken and toss in some lentils and mung beans and a little miso. You can add slivers of almonds for extra heftiness.
4. In your juice or soup mug you can add one teaspoon of aloe gel (in Western studies, some joint-rebuilding effect similar to hyaluronic acid) – might need to whisk it in as it is, well, gel-y. In your tea you could put one dropper of yucca root tincture per cup, 2 or 3 times a day if the cracklies are really bothering you.
5. Steep leaves of eucalyptus, sweet bay laurel and one (not two) juniper berries in a 16 ounce jar of olive oil, or use 1-2 drops of essential oil of each per 8 ounces, and use this to massage all joints. Don’t rub your eyes or take internally! If your massage person can put warm moist compresses on the areas first that is extra helpful. Epsom salts in a warm bath, followed by this oil massage, would be wonderful.
6. Try for 8-10 cups per day of some combination of the fluids above, and massage once a week for a month if you can.
After one month see how you feel, and look at other influences on your whole body ecology, as well as how your bones and joints feel. Let me know how it goes and please ask questions!

Hi Karen B! I am so happy that you did your Dosha analysis. The diet and herb suggestions will be really the same at this time of year and this climate. Being more Pitta may just mean that when things warm up in the Spring you may notice you have a liking for things that are slightly cooler and drier. And even then only in the later Spring turning to Summer..again for others reading this, the recommendations apply to this climate and area of the country (Wisconsin). For other places and seasons your food and herb adjustments will be different.

Today, the Chloe Handbags are become more and more popular. To an extent, the D&G Handbags are symbol of fashion and personality than mere functionality. Over the years, the Fendi Handbags has become one of the leading brands in theVersace Handbags market. The Mulberry Handbags compared with other Burberry Handbags, like the Yves Saint Laurent Handbags, Loewe Handbags, Givenchy Handbags, more favored by women.
